Updates from Aug. 18th Mountain Village Town Council Meeting
Town of Mountain Village Agrees to Purchase Park Site
Town Council voted unanimously to purchase 1.12 acres of Lot 640A in the Meadows subarea to develop a park adjacent to a proposed affordable housing project.
The Town agreed to pay $550,000, contingent on specific terms being met by the owner, Adams Ranch MV LLC. According to a Town communication sent Aug. 19, the parcel was appraised at $650,000.
The terms also require Adams Ranch MV LLC to begin the demolition of the condemned apartment building, that is on the remainder of the lot, within 30 days of closing.
Moratorium on Subdivision of Single Family Lots
In a 5-1 vote Town Council passed the first reading of an amendment that prohibits subdividing and transferring additional density to a single-family lot. Additionally, single-family lots may only be rezoned to passive open space.
The amendment doesn’t prohibit lot line adjustments or vacations, or correction plats.
The second reading of the amendment is scheduled for the Council’s Sept. 22 meeting.
San Miguel Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART)
The Town Council approved a resolution certifying ballot questions for the Nov. 8, 2016 election.
SMART will only be created if voters of each municipality and the unincorporated areas of the county within the proposed boundaries approve both its formation and funding. Approval of the SMART ballot measure will create a new special district, similar to local school, library, fire, and hospital districts.
SMART would be funded through a combination of a 0.25 percent sales tax (1 cent on every $4) and a 0.75 mill levy property tax (~$6 per $100,000 of assessed property value).
