Wildfire Mitigation
The Town of Mountain Village has a dual mission: Improve forest health and reduce wildfire risk across Mountain Village. The same field work—removing dead/down fuels and reducing stand density—addresses both objectives. There are ~193,000 trees mapped via LiDAR within town limits; extensive wildland‑urban interface (WUI) exposure; aging stands and pest pressures. Town Forestry program now extends beyond individual permits to landscape‑scale fuel treatments, incentive programs, interagency coordination, and public education/demonstration sites.
