The Telluride Hospital District (THD), which operates the Telluride Medical Center, has been advancing a multi-year effort to develop a new regional medical facility to replace its existing campus.

The current planning and entitlement process is focused on the Society Turn area, located between the Town of Telluride and the Town of Mountain Village near Highway 145. The proposed site has been reviewed through San Miguel County’s land use and planning process.

In late 2025, San Miguel County approved the Planned Unit Development (PUD) for the Society Turn site. This approval represents a significant milestone in the land-use process and establishes the framework for development of a medical facility as part of a larger mixed-use project. With this approval in place, THD has transitioned from site evaluation and entitlement work toward project delivery planning
