Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant
The Town of Telluride, the Town of Mountain Village, and San Miguel County are collaborating on the design and construction of a new Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) to better serve our region's infastructure needs. The existing facility, built decades ago, is reaching the end of its useful life and cannot accommodate future regional growth or meet evolving regulatory standards. This regional initiative ensures a modern, resilient and environmentally responsible solution to serve both current and future wastewater needs.
Located approximately 3 miles from the Town of Telluride and closer to the Town of Mountain Village, the existing regional wastewater treatment plant (RWWTP) occupies a 3.24-acre site with about 2.5 acres of usable area and operates at a 2.1 million gallons per day (MGD) capacity.
Tourism and regional growth place unique demands on the plant - with up to 24,000 visitors during festivals and peak holiday periods significantly increasing wastewater volumes
