TMVOA has developed a significant grant funding program! In the past 5 years, TMVOA has awarded more than $3 million to local and regional non-profit organizations that provide year round economic vitality, a sense of community, and increased quality of experience for Mountain Village residents and guests.
In light of 60% decrease in RETA revenues over the past two years, the budget available for TMVOA economic development grants was significantly reduced. In 2010, the total awarded for economic development grants was $160,000. In 2008 and 2009, the total awarded to economic development grants and chartitable donations was $743,174 and $586,503 respectively.
During 2009, the newly formed Mountain Village Prioritization Committee, which is made up of members of the TMVOA Board and Mountain Village Town Council, further defined the scope of grants offered to ensure that applicants were directed to the appropriate entity when requesting funds. The Committee determined that organizations that were seeking funds for economic development activities should apply to TMVOA while organizations that were seeking funds for health and human services requests applied to Town of Mountain Village. The committee reviewed requests to both entities and provided it’s funding recommendations to the TMVOA board and Town Council. The TMVOA Board approved the recommendations made by the Mountain Village Prioritization Committee unanimously at the November 18, 2009 Board meeting.
TMVOA requests are reviewed in light of the TMVOA economic development grant policy and are consistent with the TMVOA mission statement and statement of purpose for grant funding below:
TMVOA Mission Statement:To preserve and promote a vital resort community for its members, with attention to creating a sustainable village with a vibrant economy.
Statement of Purpose for Grant Funding: To support grant requests for activities, programs, special events, and plaza entertainment that provide year round economic vitality, a sense of community, and increased quality of experience for residents and guests.
